Set up to be run by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio that was started by Tokuma Shoten in 1985. The word "Ghibli" is an Italian word referring to a hot wind that blows in the Sahara desert. Each movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata since "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" was released by Studio Ghibli.
Studio Ghibli opened its doors near Kichijoji station in Musashino, Tokyo on June 15th, 1985. It then moved to the city of Koganei, about an eight-minute walk from Koganei station, on August 6th, 1992.
Studio Ghibli is in its own building, one that can easily be found. It’s not a very big building, but a sign outside reads “Studio Ghibli”, so it’s clear which one it is. Only employees and any related personnel are allowed to enter, so unfortunately fans are unable to get a glimpse of what’s behind these walls.
